Replit CEO Amjad Masad announced at TechCrunch Disrupt that the platform has ended its partnership with Anthropic, citing performance, cost, and terms in favor of OpenAI.
The transition highlights the shifting vendor strategies in AI-driven development tools.
The decision was announced on Thursday from the stage of the TechCrunch Disrupt conference. The head of the platform, which allows creating applications directly from the browser, explained that the change is due to cost, terms of cooperation and performance, noting that ChatGPT is now better.
It is worth recalling that in August, Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI. Previously, the platform used Anthropic's models for its operation.
Uncertainty and continuous use
However, the situation remains unclear. An anonymous person familiar with the matter claimed that the cooperation was still in place.

Additionally, there was evidence that Replit was using Anthropic products as early as September, as evidenced by models referenced in an announcement that month. TechCrunch has reached out to the company again for clarification.
The company's financial performance
During his speech, Mashad also mentioned that contracts with larger businesses have increased from 2% of revenue last year to about 15% this year, while sales to businesses now make up more than 50% of total revenue.
