SpaceX filed an FCC document accusing T-Mobile of pushing outdated technical rules to stall direct-to-cell satellite services, highlighting ongoing regulatory clashes ahead of WRC-27.
The two companies' dispute was revealed in official documents filed with the US Federal Communications Commission. SpaceX claims that T-Mobile is seeking overly stringent protections for traditional cell phone masts, aiming to limit competition.
The controversy over exclusion zones
According to SpaceX, T-Mobile's proposal would create a protection zone of more than 400 kilometers around the antennas, which could deprive millions of users of satellite connectivity.
For its part, T-Mobile had requested since mid-October that strict precautions be implemented to prevent satellite signals from causing interference with ground towers. SpaceX had responded since early October that the criteria being considered were outdated and overly conservative.
The path to the future and company contacts
The controversy comes to light ahead of the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference, where rules for the use of frequencies by satellites that connect directly to mobiles will be discussed.
