Tesla’s new Roadster presentation included a controlled ramp jump and rotation.
The company attributed the movement to gas thrusters using SpaceX technology, while suction cups held the car upside down on the ramp.
The demonstration also introduced reservation prices ranging from $5,000 for the base version to $250,000 for a version with extra thrusters.
In the demonstration, the Roadster climbed a curved ramp twice and stopped at the top, almost perpendicular to the ground and upside down. After the second climb, it jumped off the ramp, made a turn and descended in a controlled manner. Tesla said the movement was achieved with mechanisms that eject gas to give the car a boost and are based on SpaceX technology.
The Roadster also jumped over several Tesla cars parked next to each other. Towards the end of the presentation, it did another standing jump, spun in the air, and landed again.
The base version costs $5.000 to reserve. This version requires an additional $45.000 within 10 days. Another version, with suction cups and additional push mechanisms, has a reservation cost of $250.000. The suction cups allowed the car to remain upside down on the ramp during the presentation.
