Tesla has demonstrated the second-generation Roadster, showcasing advanced vehicle engineering including ground-sealing fan systems for downforce and cold-gas thrusters for aerial maneuvers.
The showcase highlighted a 0-60 mph time of one second and unconventional driving modes like inverted traversal.
Production is slated for 2028, with technical details emerging on the propulsion and control systems used for these maneuvers.
What did the presentation show?
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, chief design officer Franz von Holzhausen and vice president of vehicle engineering Lars Moravy demonstrated the car's capabilities. In one demonstration, the Roadster climbed a ramp, took a vertical position and continued to move upside down on a track above the ground. Fans and a system that seals the car's underside keep it afloat.
The vehicle also has thrusters that release cold gas. These help it spin in the air and land safely. In another demonstration, the Roadster climbed to a height of more than 26 feet (7,9 meters), made a single spin, and landed. It traveled in the air a distance equal to the length of five vehicles, including a Tesla Semi and a Cybertruck.
The two versions of the Roadster
The Roadster Rocket version has a single seat and the flight capabilities that were shown. It is not approved for use on public roads and will be sold only to those who receive an invitation.

The Thrust version has two seats and will be available in limited numbers. The thrusters in the rear help it accelerate from a standstill to 97 miles per hour in under a second.
Reservations and production
The Thrust is available for pre-order. An initial deposit of $5.000 is required, followed by another $45.000 within 10 days. The final price has not been determined and will be announced once the car is built. If the pre-order is canceled, all money is refunded.
Production of the Roadster is scheduled to begin in 2028.
