Lightpanda reaches 1.0 after two years of development and over 10,000 commits.
Built in Zig, the headless browser skips graphical rendering to focus on automation, web scraping, and AI agents, passing 1,739,845 WPT subtests while enforcing CORS by default.
Lightpanda isn't aimed at everyday users who want to surf the web. It's built from the ground up for developers who need to automatically collect data from websites or run artificial intelligence programs, skipping the display of graphics entirely.
What is the 1.0 version?
After more than 10.000 code changes, version 1.0 is out of testing. The program is open source, built from the ground up in the Zig programming language and based on the V8 JavaScript engine.
A special emphasis has been placed on security. The program now automatically applies rules that prevent websites from communicating with each other without permission, has stricter control over cookies, and protects against password or login leaks. It also includes options to block private networks.

Speed and low resource consumption
According to its creators, in some automation tasks the program can run up to nine times faster and consume up to sixteen times less memory than established browsers.
The project maintains compatibility with popular automation tools that developers already use and is available under the open source AGPL-3.0 license. Some companies are reported to already process over 30 million web pages daily using it.
