Nvidia's RTX 5080 graphics card now regularly sells above $2,000 following an $800 price jump in two months, with some listings hitting $5,000.
The surge stems from depleted RTX 5090 supplies and surging demand, leaving hardware buyers facing unprecedented market costs.
The card was released in early 2025 with a starting price of $999. The price increase is mainly due to increased demand, as RTX 5090 stocks have run out and buyers are turning to the next option.
The situation with the top model
The RTX 5090 is now extremely hard to find, with the few available models priced at $10.000 each. While Nvidia officially claims that the RTX 5090 has not been retired, its manufacturing partners state that they can no longer place new orders for the model.
Market and data center estimates
The YouTube channel Moore's Law is Dead claims that Nvidia is funneling its top-of-the-line chips to data center customers for greater profit. The claim is that the move is being made because of fears that the artificial intelligence market may collapse. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Amazon is stockpiling billions of dollars worth of chips because there is not enough capacity in its facilities.
