PC Labs reviews the evolution of 3D printing, covering over 70 tested models from budget devices to professional systems.
Explore modern advancements like auto-calibration, multi-material handling, enclosure engineering, and essential slicing workflows.
What has changed in modern printers?
Today's home printers feature automatic adjustment, nozzle control, vibration correction, and monitoring cameras. The printing surfaces use flexible metal plates and automatic sensors for perfect alignment. At the same time, closed enclosures help maintain a constant temperature, reduce noise, and limit odors.
Printing materials and capabilities
Material choices have expanded beyond basic plastic. Users can now use materials for everyday repairs, durable plastics for outdoor use, and reinforced composites for heavy-duty construction in enclosed spaces. Liquid resin printers have evolved to offer automated material handling, heated tanks, and high-definition displays.
Additionally, multi-color and multi-material systems allow for automatic filament switching during printing.
