Woof: The new artificial intelligence model that converts text to voice on your device

Startup Underdog has released Woof, a 32MB voice generation AI model designed for local execution on user hardware without internet connectivity.

Building on its previous Bark speech-to-text model, the initiative focuses on private, on-device processing alternatives to cloud services.

Test through the browser

Underdog demonstrated Woof's capabilities through an interactive game that runs directly in your computer's browser. In it, you can write text that the model reads aloud in real time, using only the power of your own machine.

Privacy

The company's founder, Sigil Wen, focuses on creating tools that allow data to be processed locally on the device. The goal is for users to maintain control over their information, avoiding the need to send data to third-party services for processing online.

Other Underdog tools

The company has previously released other models, such as Bark, which is 167MB in size and takes on the task of converting speech to text. In addition, Underdog has a much more powerful 27 billion-parameter model, designed to run on laptops. In parallel, the company is developing an application that aims to provide a local alternative to existing AI services. All of the above models are available for download by the public.
