YouTube Music introduces AI labels for generated and altered tracks amidst a massive wave of automated uploads, with platforms like Deezer processing over 90,000 AI tracks daily and shaping new industry transparency and filtering standards.
YouTube Music is adding a special label below the title and artist of each track. This label simply says “AI,” and if someone taps it, they see a message explaining that the sound has been altered or created entirely by artificial intelligence. The company clarifies that the label will be applied to songs that rely primarily on such technology, such as when the music or voice is automatically generated.
The attitude of other music services
On the other hand, the Deezer platform announced a program to create an option that will allow for the complete removal of artificial intelligence tracks from the user experience. According to Deezer, more than half of the songs uploaded to the platform are now computer-generated, exceeding 90.000 new tracks per day.
Other popular services also follow different approaches:
- Spotify includes AI-powered identity badges on artists and excludes their songs from recommendations and official playlists.
- Tidal has stopped paying for AI songs, though they remain available for listening.
- Apple Music plans to introduce transparency labels through a voluntary system before the end of the year.
- Amazon Music has not yet announced plans for AI music management.
