Not Every Conversation Needs a Permanent Account

Somewhere along the way, the internet decided that having a conversation requires an account.

Want to ask someone a quick question? Sign up.

Want to join a temporary discussion? Verify your email.

Want to share something privately? Download an app, create a profile, upload a picture, and probably agree to 47 pages of terms and conditions.

Seriously, I just wanted to talk. 😂

We've built incredible communication tools, but we've also made casual conversations unnecessarily complicated.

I think there's something worth exploring here:

What if not every conversation needed a permanent identity?

Imagine being able to:

  • Create a private room in seconds.
  • Invite someone using a simple room code.
  • Have a conversation without creating an account.
  • Keep conversations temporary instead of leaving everything online forever.
  • Decide when a conversation should end.

Not every interaction needs to become another permanent digital footprint.

Of course, anonymity isn't a replacement for accountability, and privacy doesn't mean ignoring safety. Good design needs to consider both.

I've been experimenting with this idea through a little project called MiutChat.

The broader question I'm interested in is:

Are we building communication tools around what users actually need, or around how much information platforms want from them?

Curious to hear what other developers think.

Would you use a temporary chat room that doesn't require traditional account registration?
