"Best Trading Psychology Tools in 2026: Edgewonk vs FX Replay vs Holdy Lab"

description: A fact-checked comparison of trading psychology software in 2026: what Edgewonk, FX Replay, TradingView Replay, TradeMindful and Holdy Lab each measure, who each is for, and what they cost.

Disclosure: I work on Holdy Lab, one of the tools below. I checked every fact about the other tools on their own pages on 15 October 2026 (sources at the end) and I say where they are stronger than ours. Prices change, so check before you buy. Educational only, not financial advice.

If you are looking for trading psychology software, the first problem is that "psychology tool" covers four different jobs. Pick the wrong kind and you pay for something that cannot answer your question.

Quick answer: which kind of tool do you need?

  • You trade real money and log your trades: a journal that links behavior to results. Edgewonk is the established choice.
  • You doubt your strategy more than yourself: a replay or backtesting tool. FX Replay or TradingView Bar Replay.
  • You want to see your habits without risking money, or get a fast first look at an exchange export: a behavior simulator and analyzer. Holdy Lab (free to start).
  • You want a free psychology-flavored journal to try: TradeMindful.

These are not exclusive. A common mix is a replay tool for the strategy and a behavior tool for the person trading it.

Trading psychology tools compared (October 2026)

What does each tool actually measure?

Edgewonk: what is my real discipline costing me?

Edgewonk is a trading journal for your real trades with a psychology layer. Its Tiltmeter shows streaks of disciplined and undisciplined behavior next to your equity curve. You can create your own psychology stats (confidence, focus, stress, impulsive or patient) and tag trades with them, run structured daily, weekly or monthly reviews, and let Edge Finder scan the journal for strengths and weaknesses. It covers forex, stocks, crypto, futures and options.

Where it is weaker: it depends on you recording trades, it needs real trading history to be useful, and it is an annual subscription rather than something you can try for a month.

FX Replay: is my strategy real, and can I execute it?

FX Replay replays real historical data one candle at a time across 120+ assets in six markets, with a journal, a prop-firm challenge simulator and Mentor AI, which looks for recurring execution mistakes across your sessions. It has a free plan with no card required. It is the better tool for building the habit of taking a setup through long losing runs.

Where it is weaker: the focus is the strategy and its execution, less the emotional pattern behind your decisions.

TradingView Bar Replay: I only need to practice reading charts

If you already use TradingView, Bar Replay lets you pause, step and trade a past chart. How far back intraday data goes depends on the symbol and your plan.

Where it is weaker: it does not measure your behavior at all.

TradeMindful: I want a free psychology journal

Its listing describes a free journal with an AI behavioral coach, a "cost of impatience" chart, a discipline streak, P&L analytics by setup, emotion, hour and day, and a pre-trade routine.

Where it is weaker: it is new, and we could not find independent reviews. Judge it by trying the free version.

Holdy Lab: how do I actually behave?

You play a controlled simulated session with no real money (Trader Day), or upload an exchange export to the Trade Analyzer. Holdy compares your decisions with your own history: position size after a loss, entries after the move, fast re-entry. Every finding states how many observations stand behind it, and small samples are labeled early signs. You get one small experiment to try next. Strategy Lab stress-tests a strategy in optimistic, base and pessimistic conditions. It does not connect to your exchange, and an uploaded file is processed in memory and not stored.

Where it is weaker: it is a young product, web only for now, and a simulation never carries the emotions of real money. A journal of your real trades will capture things a simulation cannot.

Looking for an Edgewonk alternative? Start with what you are missing

People search for an Edgewonk alternative for different reasons, and the right answer depends on which one is yours:

  • You do not trade real money yet, or have no history to import: a journal has nothing to analyze. A simulator such as Trader Day gives you behavior data from day one.
  • You want to try something before an annual commitment: FX Replay and Holdy Lab have free tiers; TradeMindful is listed as free.
  • You want to test the strategy, not the trader: that is a replay tool, FX Replay or TradingView, not a journal.
  • You want a quick read of an export without logging anything: the Holdy Lab Trade Analyzer gives a free summary with one detected pattern.

FAQ

What is the best trading psychology app?
There is no single best one, because the tools do different jobs. For real trades and discipline tracking, a journal such as Edgewonk. For practising a strategy, a replay tool. For measuring your own behavior without risking money, a simulator such as Holdy Lab.

Is there a free alternative to Edgewonk?
TradeMindful is listed as a free journal, FX Replay has a free plan (for backtesting rather than journaling real trades), and Holdy Lab's Trader Day and analyzer summary are free. None of them is a like-for-like replacement for Edgewonk's depth on real trade history.

Do I need a trading journal or a trading simulator?
A journal records what you did and thought in real trades. A simulator lets you practice and measure behavior without risk. If you have no real history yet, start with a simulator; once you trade live, add a journal.

Can software fix trading psychology?
No tool can promise better results. Software can show you patterns you do not notice and give you something specific to practice. Whether that improves results depends on your strategy, your risk and the market. See how a trading psychology simulator approaches the practice side.

What if I mainly struggle with revenge trading?
That is measurable from your history: size and re-entry speed after a loss compared with after a win. Holdy Lab's revenge trading analysis does this, and Edgewonk's tags can capture it if you log the emotion on each trade.

What none of these tools can do

No tool predicts markets or guarantees results. A behavior tool shows what you did in the past; it does not tell you what to buy or sell. Trading involves risk of loss.
