Howard here. Been building no-code apps for a couple years now, mostly with OnSpace and Bubble. Last month I got absolutely wrecked by AI credit costs on a simple MVP.
Here's what happened.
The Pain Point Nobody Talks About
You're excited. You have an idea. You fire up Lovable or Replit or whatever AI agent is hot this week.
"Build me a SaaS landing page with auth, Stripe, and email signup."
Boom. 150 credits gone.
"Add a dashboard with charts and filters."
Another 300 credits.
"Make the login page look like Linear."
200 more.
Two hours later, you're $25 deep before you even have a working prototype. And that's before backend, hosting, or iterations.
I did the math across 6 platforms. Here's a real project breakdown:
text
Project: Team task manager (10 users, basic auth, dashboard)
| Platform | Credits Used | Cost | Time |
|----------|--------------|------|------|
| Lovable | 1,200 | $30 | 2.5h |
| Replit | $28 usage | $28 | 2h |
| V0.dev | 800 credits | $20 | 3h |
| Bubble AI| Unlimited* | $29/mo | 4h |
*Unlimited = monthly sub, resets monthly.
Why This Sucks
Most builders don't budget for AI credits until the bill hits. By then you're 3 features deep and $100 in the hole.
Platforms don't make it obvious either. "Unlimited prompts" sounds great until you realize "prompt" ≠ "feature." A login page eats 50 credits. User roles? 150.
The Simple Fix I Built
nocodecost.xyz — plug in your features, get a credit/cost estimate before you start.
Neutral across platforms (Lovable, Bubble, OnSpace, etc.)
Real usage data from 50+ builds
Free, no signup
No sales pitch. Just the calculator I wish existed when I started burning cash.
Try it if you're planning a build. Curious what others' surprise bills look like — drop your biggest no-code oops in the comments.
