They're just... easier. And the author's right to be worried about what that means by 2027.
But the framing is off. The question isn't whether AI agents are easier to work with than humans. The question is what role humans play once agents become the default operator.
The Friction Was the Point
Here's what gets lost in the "AI is easier" narrative: a lot of what made working with humans annoying was also what made it useful. A contractor who pushes back on your spec has probably seen this problem before. A freelance researcher who asks a clarifying question you didn't anticipate is catching a flaw in your thinking. The friction wasn't a bug.
AI agents don't push back. They execute. That's genuinely useful for a class of tasks where you want fast, consistent, low-variance output. But it creates a different problem: you get exactly what you asked for, not what you needed. And if no human is in the loop, you might not find out the difference until it's expensive.

This has happened before with other types of expertise. Manufacturing companies offshored everything for cost, then spent a decade trying to rebuild domestic supply chain capability when they needed it. The institutional knowledge left with the workers. You can't easily reconstitute that.
The same dynamic applies to cognitive work. If companies spend 2025 and 2026 routing humans out of every workflow that an agent can technically handle, they'll arrive at 2027 with agents running processes no one fully understands and a workforce that hasn't been kept sharp on the underlying judgment calls.
The Better Model Is Agents Hiring Humans
The more interesting question isn't "agents vs. humans." It's what happens when agents become the principal and humans become the specialist on-call.
Agents are already managing workflows with more complexity than any single human could track. They're orchestrating pipelines, monitoring outputs, making routing decisions in real time. The logical extension isn't that they replace human workers entirely. It's that they become the entity that identifies where human input is needed and procures it.

The goal is an agent that knows when to hire a person. That's not a consolation prize for humans who lost the automation race. It's a more accurate model of how complex work actually gets done.
Easier isn't always better. Sometimes the hard thing is the right thing. The companies that figure that out before 2027 will be in a different position than the ones that optimized entirely for friction-free workflows and ended up with no one left who knows where the bodies are buried.
