Futurism called it out recently, and they're not wrong. Most AI-hires-human stories are publicity stunts dressed up as proof-of-concept. They're designed to make AI look benevolent, not to actually build a functional system where agents routinely outsource work to people. The result is a genre of content that accomplishes exactly nothing except generating goodwill for whoever issued the press release.

The category of AI hiring humans is real. The demand from agents for human judgment, human flexibility, human ability to handle edge cases, is not going away. It's growing. Every agent that gets deployed into the world eventually hits something it can't handle, and the options are fail or route to a human.
The question is whether that routing happens inside a real market or inside a press release.
Most of the time right now, it's the press release. That will not always be true. The interesting question is which companies are building for the world where it's just Tuesday, not the world where every agent-to-human transaction is a milestone worth announcing.
