After building and fixing ecommerce stores for clients, I keep seeing the same five problems that quietly kill sales. Here they are, and how to fix each one.
1. Slow page load
Every extra second costs conversions. Compress images (use WebP), remove unused apps, and lazy-load anything below the fold. Check your score on PageSpeed Insights and aim for 70+ on mobile.
2. Weak product pages
Visitors need to understand the product in 5 seconds. Use a clear title, 3-5 benefit bullets, real photos from multiple angles, and a visible price and "Add to cart" button without scrolling.
3. Hidden or confusing shipping info
Surprise shipping costs at checkout are one of the top reasons for abandoned carts. Show shipping cost and delivery time on the product page.
4. No trust signals
Add customer reviews, a return policy link, secure payment badges and a real contact page. Small stores especially need these to look credible.
5. A long checkout
Every extra form field loses buyers. Enable guest checkout, turn on autofill, and offer the payment methods your customers actually use.
Quick checklist
- [ ] Mobile score above 70
- [ ] Clear benefits on every product page
- [ ] Shipping info visible before checkout
- [ ] Reviews and return policy added
- [ ] Guest checkout enabled
Fixing even two or three of these usually shows results within weeks.
