I Built a Free Loyalty Punch Card Generator (Because Square Wants Your Money)

Last month I was helping a friend set up her coffee shop. She wanted a simple punch card program — buy 9 coffees, get 1 free. The usual workflow: sign up for Square Loyalty, pay $29/month, figure out their template system, print from their portal.

I closed the tab. Opened a text editor. Built something better that afternoon.

The Problem

Services like Square Loyalty and Toast Loyalty follow the same playbook:

  1. Let you browse features for free (engaging, builds dependency)
  2. Show you a polished rewards system (adds to the lock-in)
  3. Demand a $29–$50/month subscription to use it (the trap)
  4. Force you into their ecosystem for everything (the real product)

It's a subscription trap disguised as a convenience tool. And it preys on coffee shops, salons, boutiques — small businesses that just want a simple stamp card.

What I Built
