I spend my day in a terminal, and I was tired of alt-tabbing to X. So I forked Termy, an MIT-licensed Rust/GPUI terminal, and docked an X panel beside the shell. Termy X has a timeline, profile lookup, trends, research, and compose with post/reply/quote, plus likes and follows.
This post covers what it took to keep it fast and impossible to hang. That means mimalloc, zero-copy serde with borrowed &'a str structs, mpsc channels for slow browser-session writes, and process-tree kills when a call stalls. It also covers porting it to Linux with a cfg split, rustls, XDG paths and GitHub Actions.
