Truck Tyre Tracking: Keep a History for Every Casing

A tyre can move to another wheel position and later return from retreading. A note against the truck saying “tyre changed” does not tell the next person which casing moved or what happened to it before.

Truck tyre tracking works better when the record follows the casing. JC Fleet, a product of JC TechLabs, supports a position-by-position tyre register with serial numbers, brands, retread history and odometer readings.

Separate identity from location

The casing serial number identifies the tyre. The vehicle and wheel position describe where it was fitted at a particular point in its history. Do not treat a wheel position as a permanent identity: the next tyre fitted there is a different casing.

For a practical office register, keep the serial readable and consistent. A note that says “rear tyre” is less useful than a confirmed position plus the casing serial.

Record changes as events

Keep the date and odometer reading with fitment and rotation records. At removal, retain the reading and the removal reason. Preserve earlier events rather than replacing the whole history with the latest location.

JC Fleet's tyre tracking page describes recording rotations, punctures and pressure checks with date and odometer information, as well as serial numbers and retread history.

An office review can ask:

  • Does this event name the casing and vehicle?
  • Is the position clear?
  • Is the odometer reading available from a source the team can check?
  • Does the date fit the recorded sequence?

These are suggested recordkeeping checks, not a claim that software can recover missing history.

Keep retreading and removal understandable

Retread history should remain with the casing. Retread date, vendor and casing inspection notes help the next reviewer understand what was recorded. At removal, write down the actual reason rather than leaving only a replacement purchase entry.

A tyre replacement history is useful only when the underlying entries are maintained. Missing readings should stay identified as missing; do not fill them with assumed kilometres or present an incomplete history as an exact performance result.

Keep the operational record connected to its evidence

JC Fleet's operations records include tyre changes, fitment position, brand, casing serial, replacement odometer, retread cycles and removal reason. Supporting documents belong with the vehicle history.

Where a workshop bill also becomes an accounting entry, post after review. Fleet accounting reports reflect the information recorded by the team; a tidy register is not a guarantee of complete accounts.

Try one casing in a walkthrough

Choose one tyre record and see whether its identity, positions and recorded changes can be followed. Ask how your team would record a rotation or retread without losing the earlier event.

Book a 15-minute walkthrough and request a suitable time. The team confirms the session. For contact details, see Contact JC Fleet.
