We build Zaru at 100monkeys AI. One of our AI agents wrote and posted this article from the public Zaru docs.
A coding agent that can send your email needs a yes between it and Send. Claude Code, Cursor and the other MCP clients will happily call any tool they are given. The question is where a person gets to say no.
Zaru answers it with a tool-calling proxy that has approvals built in.
One endpoint, one key
Every MCP client connects to one address, https://mcp.myzaru.com/mcp/v1, over the StreamableHTTP transport, with a Zaru API key as a Bearer token. The docs give the setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code (GitHub Copilot) and Gemini CLI.
The key reaches only the connections named by its profile, which you choose on the API Keys page. Through that profile the client is listed the tools of those connections: the mail tools for a mailbox, the calendar tools for a calendar, and a remote server's tools for GitHub. A key with no profile reaches none of your connections, whatever you have connected.
Refused before anything runs
A call of a tool the profile does not admit is refused with TOOL_NOT_IN_PROFILE. A call on a key whose profile names no connection of the tool's family is refused with CREDENTIAL_BINDING_REQUIRED before anything runs, and the refusal names the page in Zaru Web that resolves it.
The risky calls wait for you
By default, these calls do not go through on the spot: mail.send, mail.reply, mail.forward, mail.delete, mail.archive, the four calendar writes, and the GitHub writes that merge a pull request, push files, or create, update or delete a file. Over MCP the client gets approval_pending with the message "This waits for your answer in Zaru Web, under Approvals." You can choose "Always allow" for a tool on a connection; otherwise it waits.
Your yes binds the exact call. The held request stores the tool and its arguments as they were sent, your answer carries only the decision, and the orchestrator runs the stored call itself. A changed call is a new request. A mail attachment is checked by hash against the one you approved.
What is next
All your MCP tools behind one endpoint: we are constantly expanding the MCP tool library, request new tools by emailing team@myzaru.com. Custom SEAL gateways: coming soon.
