Being a Developer Advocate: Week 7

Time flies when you are busy. It is already Friday again...

I have done so much this week: Moderation of a slot at the Global QA Summit 22.2, and giving a talk later the same day. Meanwhile learning Flutter while building a complex demo with our tool.

Global QA Summit: Hosting a Slot

I am really anxious when it comes to hosting any event. As a host there is so much you have to track. Time boxes, making sure everyone feels welcome and at this particular event, the Q&A is 30 minutes with all speakers. Everybody should get their fair share of speaking time.

I prepared some questions (which were not needed 🤣) and researched the topics of each talk as well as the speakers.

Also, I personally do not think my personality is a good fit for hosting! But it is sooo fun to talk to amazing speakers and watch them do what they do best. So I bring a curious and positive mindset to it and I hope that does the trick 😇

Preparing a Demo

Together with a colleague, we prepared a PoC for a Flutter automation. Our tool supports Android devices already but Android is a little bit special. So we spend a lot of time figuring out how to setup with an emulator and then fiddling together a nice Flutter app that we could automate with our tool.

A highlight was that I managed to get the automation running on a real Android tablet.

The demo including the automation will serve as the foundation of a tutorial series where we show what our tool can do with Android.

Sadly we do not have any documentation on it now and it is dearly needed by our users!

So in the spirit of content reuse, this week was amazing 🥳

Helping Users Out

As I am growing more competent with our product it is time to finally start engaging with our community (If you want to join: https://discord.gg/vQc4Tbb7 ☺️) by responding to questions and helping out.

I now understand better why it is so important to be there. Already got some new ideas on what is missing for a better Developer Experience!
