A Personal Need That Became a Long-Term Project

Sync-in wasn’t born from a business plan or a pitch deck. It started as a personal need: I wanted a simple, secure, and private way to access and share my files remotely. Like many, I was increasingly uncomfortable relying on centralized, opaque cloud providers where the user is the product and privacy is an afterthought.

I needed a solution that respected my data, worked for both personal and team use, and didn’t require sacrificing user experience or flexibility. So I began building Sync-in.

From Side Project to Public Launch

Over the last years, Sync-in evolved steadily. I redesigned it multiple times, added features, threw some away, and rebuilt others. It became more than a tool for my own needsβ€”it grew into something I believed could help others too.

Today, I’m proud to share the public launch of Sync-in.

What is Sync-in?

Sync-in is a secure, open-source platform for file sharing, synchronization, and collaboration β€” built to give individuals and organizations full control over their data.

Host your own workspace to organize, access, and collaborate on files, notes, and documents β€” with your team, your friends, or just for yourself.

Key features include:

πŸ” Data sovereignty – Your files stay on your infrastructure. No third-party cloud, no compromise.
πŸ›‘οΈ Privacy-first design – No telemetry, no tracking. Your data remains yours β€” and stays private.
βš™οΈ Granular permissions – Fine-tune access per user, group, space, or file.
πŸ”„ Desktop sync – Keep files synced across devices with native apps (Windows, macOS, Linux, CLI).
πŸ“„ Collaborative editing – Edit documents together in real time (via OnlyOffice integration).
πŸ“‚ Spaces – Organize content into secure areas: personal, team, or public.
πŸ‘₯ Secure sharing – Share with individuals or groups, with precise access control.
πŸ”— Public links – Create time-limited, password-protected links to share content externally.
πŸ” Full-text indexing – Search instantly through documents, server-side and private.
πŸ“Š Activity tracking – See who did what, and get real-time notifications.
πŸ“¦ WebDAV support – Mount Sync-in as a remote drive from any device.
🌐 Universal access – Use Sync-in from any browser, mobile, or desktop app.

Built for Privacy, Designed for Users

Sync-in is not just another file hosting tool. It’s grounded in the belief that:

  • Privacy isn’t a feature β€” it’s a commitment
  • We should be able to collaborate without surrendering our data
  • Self-hosting should be simple and sustainable

You can use it alone, with your team, in a nonprofit, or at the company level. It adapts to your needs, not the other way around.
