If you use Cursor, you may have seen your default model flip to Grok. Cursor has been defaulting to Grok since SpaceX bought the company in August. The plans from 12 October include usage for Grok only. Other models like Claude are billed at API list price from the first request.
I’m not here to argue about which model is best. I just think you should be the one to choose. So I built Quill, an AI code editor where the model is your decision.
How the model choice works
Local models. Quill finds Ollama, vLLM and LM Studio on your machine and runs fully offline.
Claude CLI. If you have it installed, Quill detects it and uses your own Claude account. No extra cost from me.
Your own API keys. Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini keys work too. They stay on your machine and aren’t counted against your plan.
Hosted models. Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok, plus an Auto option that picks for you. You can choose a different model for completions, chat and agent.
Things I built because I wanted them
Five chat modes. Ask, Plan, Agent, Multi-Agent and QA. Multi-Agent splits a big task across child agents, each working in its own copy of the repo. QA runs a test you describe in plain words in a real browser, then tells you pass or fail per step. (Pro and Max)
Feature Tree. AI forgets what your app is. So Quill keeps a map of it (modules, pages, actions, fields) in a file called feature-tree.yaml. The agent reads it in every chat, and any change to it comes as a diff you approve.
Reviewable diffs. Every AI change is a diff. Nothing is written until you accept it.
Your VS Code setup. It imports your extensions, themes, settings and keybindings.
Spend you can see. Each reply shows the percent of your plan used. You can set warnings and a daily cap.
Pricing
Pro is $20 a month and Max is $40. Every new user gets a free trial with all Pro features, and no card is needed.
Privacy
Keys stay on your machine. I log usage only, never your code or messages.
What I’d like to know
I built Quill, so I’m biased. What’s missing for you? Questions and requests go to quillide.com/forum, and I read everything.
