Art x Ai

I made an AI wrapper: http://aidreams.wtf.

Using the OpenAI DALL-E model and Cloudflare, I've built a web app that creates illustrations reflective of the user's environment. I'm feeding the model with user information like geo coordinates, time of day, local weather, browser data, the current season of the year, etc.

For now, the style of the image generated is inspired by broad artistic styles — like a comic book or pencil drawing, but to make it even more 'localised', artists and their style could become the inspiration (aka become local prompt engineers). Will that make it "real" art?

Digital is transitioning from a canvas to display art into a new medium for art.

I'm no artist myself, but I'm personally fascinated by the many potential applications of AI and the fact that I can now own a real-time moving piece of art with a life of its own—something previously only possible in magical, fictional worlds like Harry Potter.

Huntington Beach, pumping 5ft swell, offshore wind and dropping tide.
Wouldn't it be cool to own a picture frame that displays your local surf spot painted in the style of your favourite local artist but that changes in real-time to reflect current surf conditions and a brief weather forecast?

A very detailed, pencil-drawn comic book illustration of today's events.
An ever-changing image of your favourite holiday destination by a commissioned local artist that dynamically displays the conditions it is now.

Melbourne on a cloudy autumn day.
A giant piece of digital art of Melbourne displayed in the NGV, created by a well-known artist using AI, dynamically reflects Melbourne's exact time of day, weather, and season in real-time.

A widget or even a physical frame connected to your Google or Outlook calendar that playfully displays your upcoming agenda as a comic book. Someone really needs to make this one happen.

As we continue to navigate AI's legal, moral, and copyright implications, I'm already excited by what is possible and even more stoked for what comes next.

Meanwhile, if you have feedback, ideas or want to get involved, please hit me up. All the code and prompts are on my GitHub, too, for the curious ones.
