Read the guide before you play, not after

There is a genre of frustration that is entirely avoidable, and it is the one where you get stuck in a game for forty minutes before finding out that the answer was written down somewhere.

The reason it happens is that guides and games are organised on different axes. The game is arranged by level and by quest. The guide is arranged by topic, and usually by the order in which you meet it if you play straight through.

When you have the item in your hand

If you are mid-game and you are holding something, the useful index is the material, not the chapter. What can I make this out of, and what else does that make.

HowToCraft indexes recipes per game that way, at https://howtocraft.net.

When you are about to play something new

Before you open a game you have never played, the same information is worth having, and the game is a bad place to look for it. Modes, items, updates, and which of those are worth your time all live in a guide, and the guide tells you what the game proposes before you decide whether to propose it back.

AllRoblox gathers that kind of page per game, with modes, codes, items and updates in one place, at https://allroblox.com.

The habit

It is one step and it takes about ten minutes: before starting, spend ten minutes reading what the game is about and what the guide says is awkward.

Forty minutes lost inside a game is the expensive version of the same lesson, and it is a lesson you only get once, because after it you already know.
