Journey into Web3[1]

Summary of what Web 1.0 to Web 3.0 does

Web 1.0 was the first generation of the world wide web, also referred to as the read-only web.

This means that users were only allowed to seek and read information on the web.

As humans we evolved to Web 2.0

** Now what did Web 2.0 bring **

Web 2.0 also known as the participative web allows users to be part of the internet and interact with it by allowing the transfer of data (sharing and receiving information), even buying and selling among users. Which gave rise to platforms like dev.to, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon e.t.c

Then we upgraded to the bombshell 💣
(Web 3.0: The Decentralized Internet).

So... Have you ever searched or messaged someone about something like a shoe on the Internet then you suddenly start seeing sponsored advertisements about shoes 😅😂

That’s kind of creepy. Some people actually do like it because it saves them the stress of searching for stuff. On the other hand most people don’t because they feel it’s an infringement of their privacy and exploitation of their data.

This is where Centralization (Web 2.0) comes in.

What does centralization mean?

Centralization is the concentration of control of an activity or organization under a single authority.

So when signing into these Web 2.0 platforms, Our data is automatically Centralized. Which means the platform has access over your data.
They can censor your post on their platform or access certain information about you or even sell your data to certain advertisers.

So this was becoming a problem we had to solve.

In 2014, The term Web 3.0 was coined by the Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood for the new web based on Blockchain Technology(I’ll walkthrough this in my another doc) which incorporates concepts such as decentralization and token-based economics.

The Decentralized Internet (Web 3.0)

What is decentralization?

Decentralization is the transfer of control of an activity or organization to several local offices or authorities rather than one single one.

So the concept of Web 3.0 brings ownership.
Meaning that your data isn’t controlled by a single authority, You and You alone own your data else you’ve been compromised by a malicious person which is nearly impossible unless you’ve given them access to certain information like your private key.

Web3 arguably fights against the influence of big tech companies on your data and providers extra privacy and data security as you surf the Internet.

Web3 also gives rise to new developments like NFT (Non Fungible Tokens), DAO and the Metaverse.
Was that why Facebook changed its name 🤔

Tokens can be known as a digital asset which represents a store of value.

Meanwhile...
Jack Dorsey (Former CEO and cofounder of twitter) and friends are currently building Web 5.0 🤯 .
Isn’t that fascinating
But why was 4 skipped 🤔
Oh Well! We’d get to know more about that later.

Thanks for reading all the way here 🙏
That’s just a summary of what I’ve gathered about the web upgrades.
Please make sure to leave a like if you do. 😇
Ciao

How to reduce TTFB

In the past few years in the web dev world, we’ve seen a significant push towards rendering our websites on the server. Doing so is better for SEO and performs better on low-powered devices, but one thing we had to sacrifice is TTFB.

In this article, we’ll see how we can identify what makes our TTFB high so we can fix it.
