As a result, while we think we're choosing information on our own, we're actually being guided by algorithms and swept up in an endless flow of content. In this process, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters, and before we realize it, time has slipped away.
In such an environment, we are required to make more intentional choices than ever before, yet we often lack the capacity to do so. The energy needed to make these decisions grows ever larger, leading to mental exhaustion.
This is the trap of information overload in modern times and a significant factor that unsettles our minds. Is this abundance of possibilities and choices truly improving our lives?

Have you ever heard the phrase 多岐亡羊 (duō qí wáng yáng)? This expression originates from an ancient Chinese Daoist text, Liezi, and is based on a parable.
One day, while chasing a lost sheep, the protagonist found themselves at a confusing intersection with multiple paths. If there had been only one path, they could have simply followed it without hesitation and eventually caught the sheep. However, with so many branching paths before them, they couldn’t determine which way the sheep had gone and ultimately lost track of it. This story teaches the lesson that having too many options can cause us to lose sight of the truth or the goal we are meant to pursue.
In today’s age of information overload, we often find ourselves in a similar 多岐亡羊 situation. Surrounded by an overwhelming amount of information and choices, it’s no easy task to discern what to believe or which path to follow. This confusion becomes a major source of the anxiety that robs us of our peace of mind.
