Georgia Layoffs 2026: WARN Numbers Explained
How many layoffs has Georgia seen in 2026? The WARN notices in the Layoff Atlas archive give a concrete answer: 69 notices filed so far this year, reporting 10,445 affected workers. Here's what those numbers mean, how 2026 compares with past years, and what to watch as the year winds down.
Georgia's 2026 numbers so far
The 2026 year-to-date slice holds 69 notices covering 10,445 reported workers, and 10 notices in the archive carry future effective dates — meaning some of this year's reported layoffs are still scheduled to take place. The newest notice in the archive is dated September 14, 2026: Caraustar Mill Group in Cobb, GA, reporting 95 workers with an effective date of November 16, 2026.
Year-by-year comparison puts 2026 in perspective (the Georgia archive begins in January 2023, so earlier years aren't shown):
- 2026 (so far): 69 notices · 10,445 workers
- 2025 (full year): 92 notices · 15,707 workers
- 2024 (full year): 68 notices · 8,034 workers
- 2023 (full year): 56 notices · 8,098 workers
Two things stand out. First, 2026 has already passed both 2023's and 2024's full-year worker totals with nearly three months left, and filing volume (69) is tracking ahead of 2024's pace. Second, it is well below 2025, the heaviest year in the archive at 15,707 workers. If filings continue at the current rate, 2026 will land as Georgia's second-heaviest WARN year in the archive — heavier than 2023–2024, lighter than 2025. All-time, the archive holds 285 non-cancelled Georgia notices reporting 42,284 affected workers, with zero notices missing worker counts.
The filings driving Georgia's 2026 total
Georgia's 2026 number is top-heavy: a handful of large filings account for a big share of the worker total.
The single largest filing this year was Wellstar Health System in Cobb, GA: 761 workers, noticed August 3, 2026, effective September 26, 2026. Next came Spirit Airlines in Clayton, GA: 653 workers, noticed May 29, 2026. Other large 2026 filings include Republic National Distributing (321 workers, effective October 19, 2026), Essendant (192 workers, effective October 3), and FPL Food (179 workers, effective October 31). Together, just the top three filings represent about 16% of Georgia's entire 2026 worker total.
Most notices are far smaller — the median WARN filing covers dozens of workers, and the headline totals are built from many small events alongside the big ones.
How to read these numbers
A few cautions before drawing conclusions:
- These are reported plans, not confirmed job losses. A WARN notice is an advance filing; the actual number of people who lose work can end up lower (attrition, rescinded plans) or the filing can be cancelled.
- Georgia's official source is currently stale. Georgia publishes WARN notices through the Technical College System of Georgia's WorkSource Georgia view, and the direct government feed hasn't produced a new filing since February 17, 2025. The 2026 filings above are attributed secondary records, which is why Georgia's coverage is labeled partial. The figures reflect what was reported, but official confirmation is lagging.
- WARN coverage is not a census of layoffs. Only layoffs meeting the size and timing thresholds trigger a filing, and reporting rules vary by state. Missing coverage is not zero layoffs — small employers and sub-threshold cuts never appear.
Nationally, the Layoff Atlas 90-day window currently tracks 738 notices reporting 68,093 workers, with the heaviest upcoming effective weeks landing on October 31 (7,437 workers) and November 14 (8,216 workers). Georgia's 10 notices with future effective dates will land somewhere in that national schedule.
What to watch
Three things will determine how 2026 ends for Georgia: whether the fourth-quarter filing pace keeps up with the current trajectory toward a second-heaviest year, how many of the 10 notices with future effective dates take effect on schedule — especially RNDC's 321-worker October event and Caraustar's November event — and whether Georgia's direct official feed comes back online so 2026 filings get state confirmation. We'll update these figures as new notices arrive.
