Survivors-like games reward planning, and PokéSurvivor, a free Pokémon fan game by JPTER78, is a good example. Its move evolutions look confusing at first, but the system boils down to a short checklist.
Here is the checklist I wish I had on my first run.
Step one: max the move. Pick up a move from a level-up card and keep upgrading it. A move tops out at level 5, which means four upgrade cards after you learn it.
Step two: find its stat card. Every move that can evolve needs exactly one matching stat card, taken at least once during the same run. The order does not matter. You can grab the card before or after the move reaches level 5, as long as it happens in that run.
Step three: take the golden card. When the evolution card appears on a level-up, choose it.
The stat cards are not equally common keys. Power unlocks the most moves by a wide margin, followed by Reflexes, Sprint and Synthesis. Vigor, Armor and Magnet each cover only a handful. If you are unsure which card to chase, Power is usually the safest early pick because it also boosts damage.
What an evolution gives you depends on the move's kind rather than its type. Projectiles share one upgrade package, auras share another, and so on. A projectile evolution adds extra shots, pierce and damage, while an aura evolution grows the area and damage. Once you learn the pattern, you can predict what a new evolution will do before you ever see it.
A simple opening plan that works well for many partners:
- Keep your starter move and push it to level 5.
- Grab an early Power card.
- Add one defensive move, such as an aura or an orbit, as a second slot.
Bonds are the newer layer. After you defeat a legendary inside a rift, you receive a bond that fuses two moves into one slot so they fire together. Evolved moves and bonds pair well, because a fused passive damage source keeps you protected while your main attack does the work.
For a fuller breakdown of which moves are worth the effort, the PokéSurvivor tier list is a good place to start. Rankings are opinion-based and the developer patches often, so check the latest notes before making big decisions.
