One thing I find interesting about travelling is that discovering a city is often just as important as getting there.
You can arrive in a new city with a hotel reservation, but then the real questions begin. Where can I eat nearby? What places are worth visiting? Is there an event happening tonight? What businesses are around this area? Which attractions are close enough to visit? What is happening in the neighbourhood that I would probably never find through a normal search?
That is the kind of problem LeeX is trying to explore.
LeeX, founded by Oscar Awowari, is being developed as a city discovery ecosystem connecting Businesses, Events and Infrastructure. The idea is to create a more connected digital layer around the physical places people encounter while travelling, living and moving around cities.
Instead of thinking about a city as a collection of isolated listings, LeeX looks at the relationships between those places.
A hotel can be connected to restaurants nearby. An event can be connected to its venue and the businesses around it. A landmark can lead to other attractions, services and experiences within the same area.
That makes the concept particularly interesting from a travel perspective.
When people travel, they are not really looking for thousands of random listings. They are looking for useful discoveries that fit where they are, what they are doing and how much time they have.
This is where the wider LeeX vision comes in.
Businesses, Events and Infrastructure form the foundation, while systems such as Identity, Discovery, Location Moments, Presence and Reputation are designed to add more context around places.
Over time, a traveller could potentially discover a location, see experiences associated with it, understand what is nearby, visit the place and contribute a Moment or Check-In that becomes part of its digital history.
That creates something different from a conventional travel directory.
It starts turning the city itself into the discovery environment.
There is also an interesting business side to the project.
A small transaction involving approximately 0.0016% of LeeX at ₦90,000 gives an implied valuation of about ₦5.625 billion. I would describe that specifically as a transaction-implied valuation rather than saying it represents an independently established market valuation.
At the same time, the LeeX five-year vision has been discussed around a potential $128 billion valuation outlook. That is a long-term vision, not the company's current confirmed valuation.
What makes the numbers interesting is not simply the numbers themselves. It is the size of the problem LeeX is attempting to address.
Travel is only one part of it.
Every city has residents, visitors, businesses, events, infrastructure and constantly changing activity. If those elements can be organized into one connected discovery ecosystem, the potential application extends from tourism to everyday local discovery.
Someone visiting Lagos could use it differently from someone who has lived there for ten years.
A tourist might want attractions, restaurants and events.
A resident might want something interesting happening nearby.
A business owner might want to become more discoverable.
An event organizer might want people attending an event to discover what else exists around the venue.
That is where the LeeX idea becomes broader than travel.
The long-term direction includes Location Intelligence, an AI Discovery Engine, Movement Intelligence and a Global Discovery Network. The ambition is to progressively understand not only where places are, but how people, places, businesses, events and activity relate to one another.
For a Nigerian technology project, that is an interesting direction to watch.
The immediate stage is still the LeeX Beta, so much of the larger vision remains something that has to be built, tested and validated.
But the basic question is straightforward:
Can technology make it easier for people to discover more of the cities they visit and live in?
That is essentially what LeeX is trying to answer.
