I Built an AI Agent That Runs My Blog 24/7 — Here's How
Ever wondered what it would be like to have a tireless assistant that writes, posts, and optimizes your blog content while you sleep? I did too. So I built one.
For the past few months, I've been running an AI-powered automation system that handles my entire blog pipeline — from content generation to publishing to quality analysis. And it works surprisingly well.
In this post, I'll walk you through exactly how I built this system, what tools I used, and the lessons I learned along the way.
The Problem: Content Consistency is Hard
Like many developers, I wanted to maintain an active blog. The benefits are clear:

But here's the thing: consistency is brutal. Between a day job, side projects, and actual life, finding time to write quality content every week is tough.

The Solution: An AI Agent Architecture
I built a system that runs 24/7 using OpenClaw (a personal AI agent framework) combined with cron jobs and external APIs. Here's the high-level architecture:

The beauty of this architecture is that each component is modular and can be improved independently.
Component 1: The Cron Scheduler
I use simple cron jobs to trigger the agent at specific intervals:

Component 2: Content Generation
This is where the magic happens. The AI agent:
- Reads trending topics from HackerNews, Dev.to, and Reddit
- Checks its content queue (I maintain a backlog of ideas in markdown)
- Generates a full post using a structured prompt template
- Saves to the workspace for review

The key insight here is that you don't need to generate perfect content. The goal is to create a solid first draft that you (or the quality analyzer) can refine.
Component 3: Quality Analyzer
Before any post goes live, it passes through a quality check. This component analyzes:
- Readability (Flesch-Kincaid score)
- SEO (keyword density, meta description, title quality)
- Structure (headings hierarchy, paragraph length)
- Code quality (syntax highlighting, explanations)
- PII detection (no personal info leaks)

This analyzer runs automatically before publishing. If it detects issues, the agent either fixes them automatically or flags the post for manual review.
Component 4: Auto-Publisher
Once a post passes quality checks, it's time to publish. I built a multi-platform publisher that posts to:
- Dev.to (via API)
- Medium (via API)
- Personal blog (via Git + GitHub Pages)

The publisher respects API rate limits and handles errors gracefully. If a post fails to publish, it logs the error and retries later.
Component 5: Feedback Loop
The final piece is analytics and improvement. The agent tracks:
- View counts (via platform APIs)
- Engagement (reactions, comments)
- Traffic sources (where readers come from)
- Revenue impact (affiliate clicks, product sales)
This data feeds back into the content generator, helping it learn what topics and formats work best.

Every week, the agent generates a report showing which posts performed best and suggests topics for the next batch.
Putting It All Together
Here's how a typical content cycle works:
- Cron triggers the agent at 6 AM
- Agent checks the content queue and sees "Write about FastAPI"
- Agent generates a 2000-word post with code examples
- Quality analyzer runs and gives it a green light
- Agent publishes to Dev.to, Medium, and the blog
- Post goes live, agent logs the URLs and IDs
- 24 hours later, agent fetches view counts and tracks performance
All of this happens automatically. I wake up to a notification: "✅ New post published: Building REST APIs with FastAPI — 127 views in first 24h"
Key Lessons Learned
1. Quality Over Quantity
Early on, I optimized for volume — posting every day. Bad idea. The posts were thin, generic, and got zero engagement.
I dialed it back to 2-3 high-quality posts per week. Traffic increased 4x.
2. Code Examples Are King
Posts with real, runnable code examples get 5-10x more engagement than purely conceptual posts. Developers want to copy-paste and learn by doing.
3. Automate the Boring Parts, Not the Creative Ones
I don't automate the ideation process. I still maintain a content backlog and choose topics manually. The automation handles research, drafting, formatting, and publishing — the tedious stuff.
4. Rate Limits Are Real
Dev.to, Medium, and most platforms have strict rate limits. Respect them. I learned this the hard way when my API key got temporarily suspended.
5. Canonical URLs Matter
If you're cross-posting (which you should be for maximum reach), always set a canonical URL pointing to your main blog. This prevents duplicate content penalties and consolidates SEO value.
The Results
After running this system for 3 months:
- Posted 24 articles across 3 platforms
- Generated 8,400+ views (from ~200/month before)
- Built an email list of 230 subscribers
- Earned $180 from affiliate links and digital products
More importantly, I freed up ~10 hours per week that I used to spend on manual blogging tasks.
What's Next?
I'm working on adding:
- SEO optimization (auto-generate meta descriptions, alt text)
- Image generation (AI-created cover images and diagrams)
- Social media cross-posting (auto-tweet new posts)
- A/B testing (try different titles/CTAs and track performance)
