This activity is often synchronized with significant geopolitical events and military conflicts, where compromised surveillance infrastructure is used to facilitate Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) and real-time target correction.
The attackers utilize a combination of commercial VPN nodes and virtual private servers to exploit known vulnerabilities such as CVE-2021-33044 and CVE-2017-7921. Check Point Research indicates that these cyber operations are increasingly integrated into interstate conflicts, serving as essential intelligence-gathering tools alongside physical military actions.
