The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in Cybersecurity – Week 12

Operation Synergia III, a major international effort led by Interpol, has disrupted vast cybercrime networks across 72 countries. The operation resulted in the seizure of 45,000 malicious IP addresses and numerous arrests related to phishing, ransomware, and fraud. Parallel to these efforts, the European Union has imposed sanctions on several Chinese and Iranian entities for their involvement in state-sponsored infrastructure attacks and influence operations.

In technical developments, a new iOS exploit chain named ‘DarkSword’ has been discovered targeting users to steal sensitive data such as credentials and cryptocurrency keys via Safari exploits. Concurrently, the Interlock ransomware group has been observed exploiting a critical CVSS 10.0 zero-day vulnerability (CVE-2026-20131) in Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center. These incidents underscore the increasing use of zero-day exploits and AI-assisted malware in modern cyberattacks targeting enterprise infrastructure.
