Selling digital files in Russia without a website: payment link, instant delivery, and what Gumroad won't do for you

You have a PDF guide, checklist, template, or mini-course. You want to sell it in Russia, accept ₽ payments, comply with 54-ФЗ, and deliver the file automatically — but you do not want to build a website.

This sounds like a payment problem. It is not.

It is a small commerce workflow:

  product page
  → payment
  → payment confirmation
  → file access
  → receipt
  → repeat access
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

A plain bank transfer covers only one step. A payment link can cover more, but only when connected to product delivery and the
seller’s legal setup.

This guide explains how that workflow works, where Telegram fits, and why copying a Gumroad-style setup is not enough for the Russian market.

1. The problem: payment is only half of the sale

Imagine this scenario:

I have a digital file — a PDF guide, checklist, template, or short course — and no website. How does a buyer actually pay and
get it?

A common manual workflow looks like this:

  1. Buyer messages the creator in Telegram.
  2. Creator sends card or SBP details.
  3. Buyer sends a screenshot.
  4. Creator checks the payment.
  5. Creator sends the file.
  6. Buyer returns a week later because the message or download was lost.

This works for the first few sales. Then it becomes slow and error-prone.

A proper digital-product flow needs four connected components:

  • A public page explaining what the buyer gets.
  • A payment method.
  • Reliable payment confirmation.
  • Access to the purchased file or course.

The key distinction: a payment provider accepts money; a digital-product platform manages the whole transaction around that
payment.

If you connect only acquiring, you still need to build the product page, order records, delivery rules, customer email, and
recovery flow yourself.

  1. Payment link, explained

A payment link is a URL that opens a page where the buyer can see the product, price, seller details, and available payment methods.

For a digital product, the useful version is not a bare payment form. It is a product page tied to a specific order.

A typical flow looks like this:

  Creator publishes product
          ↓
  Platform generates public URL
          ↓
Buyer opens URL from Telegram or social media
          ↓
  Buyer enters email and pays
          ↓
  Payment provider confirms transaction
          ↓
  Platform unlocks purchased content
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

This is how to create a payment link without a website: use a hosted product page instead of building your own storefront and checkout.

Russian service Витрина follows this model. A creator adds a product, sets a price, connects
a payment method, and receives a public link. The link can be placed in a Telegram post, channel description, social profile,
newsletter, or direct message.

With vytrina.ru, money does not first pass through a shared platform shop. Creator connects their own
YooKassa shop, so card and SBP payments go directly to seller through seller’s payment account.

Self-employed creators and individual entrepreneurs using NPD can also use manual SBP transfer. Important difference:

  • With YooKassa, payment confirmation can trigger delivery automatically.
  • With manual SBP, creator must verify transfer and confirm order before access opens.

Payment link does not determine seller’s legal status. Regular commercial sales usually require appropriate registration, such
as self-employment or individual entrepreneurship. Technical ability to generate URL does not replace tax and consumer-law obligations.

3. Instant delivery: “paid → downloaded”

A simple digital file selling service with instant download after payment needs an event that can be trusted.

That event should be confirmed payment, not:

  • Checkout page opening.
  • Buyer clicking “I paid.”
  • Screenshot sent through Telegram.
  • Redirect from payment form without server-side verification.

Reliable delivery normally works like this:

  payment provider
          ↓ webhook
  order marked as paid
          ↓
  temporary or account-linked access
          ↓
  email with access link
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Buyer should receive access only after platform verifies successful payment.

Depending on product type, delivery can mean:

  • Downloading PDF, ZIP archive, preset, or spreadsheet.
  • Opening external resource or template link.
  • Accessing mini-course lessons.
  • Viewing booking confirmation.
  • Receiving instructions for next step.

“Instant delivery” should not mean sending permanent public URL to private file. Better implementation uses controlled access: signed link, temporary link, authenticated purchase record, or buyer-specific access page.

No system can fully prevent buyer from copying downloaded file. Useful protection focuses on limiting accidental sharing and preserving legitimate repeat access:

  • Do not expose storage URL publicly.
  • Use expiring download links.
  • Store purchase against buyer email.
  • Allow buyer to reopen purchase later.
  • Log delivery and download attempts.
  • Add personalized watermark where product format supports it.

Витрина opens access after confirmed payment and sends buyer an email. Buyer can later recover purchased content through “My purchases.” This solves repeat access without forcing creator to resend files manually.

What about Telegram?

Telegram is often distribution channel, not payment infrastructure.

You can publish product link in:

  • Channel post.
  • Pinned message.
  • Profile description.
  • Bot menu.
  • Private conversation.

Buyer still completes checkout on hosted product page. After payment, file opens through access page.

Telegram bot can automate more steps, but then you must maintain:

  • Bot identity and commands.
  • Payment integration.
  • Webhook validation.
  • Order storage.
  • File permissions.
  • Failed-payment handling.
  • Customer recovery.
  • Legal and receipt flow.

For one PDF or checklist, building all this may cost more than using hosted service.
For paid Telegram channel, file sale and membership access are different workflows. Automatic file delivery does not automatically mean bot-managed channel membership. Define exactly what buyer receives.

4. Russian specifics: why Gumroad does not solve everything

Gumroad is a useful reference model: product page, checkout, digital delivery, and customer library. But a Russian creator needs additional checks before choosing a foreign platform.

Russian payment methods and payouts

Buyer may expect:

  • Russian bank card.
  • SBP.
  • ₽ pricing.
  • Familiar Russian-language checkout.

Seller needs a payout route that works with their bank, tax status, and current platform restrictions.

Foreign platform availability, supported countries, payment methods, and payout rules can change. Check them before launch. Do not build a business around the assumption that an international payout route will remain available.

54-ФЗ and receipts

Payment and receipt are separate concerns.

A self-employed seller using NPD generally records income and creates a receipt through «Мой налог» according to applicable
rules.

If seller uses acquiring through their own YooKassa shop, receipt flow depends on shop configuration and seller’s fiscal setup.

A storefront should not claim it issues seller’s receipt unless it legally and technically does so.

Витрина provides product page, order, payment connection, and delivery workflow. Seller remains responsible for correct
business status, receipts, product description, refunds, and customer communication.

Official starting point for NPD rules: Federal Tax Service — Налог на профессиональный доход.

This article is technical guidance, not legal or tax advice. Verify current requirements for your status and payment setup.

Direct seller relationship

With many global platforms, platform controls checkout and payout model.

With Vytrina, creator connects their own payment account. This matters when you need:

  • Money paid directly to seller.
  • Seller-owned YooKassa configuration.
  • Russian card and SBP payments.
  • Local receipt workflow.
  • Product delivery without custom integration.

Budget under ₽1,500 per month

At time of writing, Vytrina offers:

  • Free: ₽0, unlimited products, up to 10 paid orders per month.
  • Creator: ₽990 per month, without Free order limit.
  • Platform sales commission: 0%.
  • Payment-provider commission: charged separately under provider’s terms.

Always verify current limits and prices on the pricing page before calculating unit economics.

This distinction matters: 0% platform commission does not mean zero payment-processing cost.

5. Step-by-step setup

Here is a minimal setup for selling a PDF without a website.

Step 1: Prepare product

Create the final file and verify:

  • It opens on mobile.
  • Internal links work.
  • Draft pages and comments are removed.
  • Filename is understandable.
  • Buyer knows the file format before payment.

Step 2: Create product page

Add:

  • Clear outcome.
  • Who the product is for.
  • File format and size.
  • Table of contents or preview.
  • Price.
  • Delivery method.
  • Refund and contact information.

Avoid a vague title like “Guide v2.” Use an outcome-focused title such as “30-day Telegram content planner.”

Step 3: Choose payment flow

For automatic confirmation, connect your own YooKassa shop.

For a manual start, eligible self-employed sellers or individual entrepreneurs using NPD can accept an SBP transfer and confirm payment themselves.

Do not describe manual confirmation as instant automatic delivery.

Step 4: Configure delivery

Upload the file or add a protected destination link.

Check what happens when:

  • Payment succeeds.
  • Payment fails.
  • Buyer closes the browser.
  • Email contains a typo.
  • Buyer returns later.
  • Buyer requests a refund.

Step 5: Publish payment link

Place the link where demand already exists:

  • Telegram channel.
  • Social profile.
  • Newsletter.
  • Webinar recording.
  • Direct message.
  • QR code.

No separate website is required.

** Step 6: Test as buyer**

Run the complete flow from a phone:

  open product page
  → enter email
  → pay
  → receive access
  → receive email
  → reopen purchase
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Testing checkout alone is not enough. Test delivery and recovery too.

Final checklist

Before launch, confirm:

  • [ ] Buyer understands what they purchase.
  • [ ] Price is displayed in ₽.
  • [ ] Payment method works for Russian buyers.
  • [ ] Access opens only after confirmed payment.
  • [ ] Manual SBP is not described as automatic.
  • [ ] Buyer can recover purchase.
  • [ ] Seller knows who creates the receipt.
  • [ ] Payment-provider commission is included in unit economics.
  • [ ] Product page and file work on mobile.

Selling digital files without a website is not about generating one URL. It is about connecting the offer, payment confirmation, delivery, receipt, and repeat access into one predictable flow.

For Russian creators selling PDFs, checklists, templates, or mini-courses, vytrina.ru
provides that flow through a hosted product page, creator-owned YooKassa connection, and automatic delivery after confirmed payment.
