AI and the Art of Redefinition

In the age of artificial intelligence and LLMs, the nature of jobs has changed and will continue to change, from job titles to the way work itself is carried out. This technological revolution is reshaping the face of the planet.

We have heard countless stories about AI's capabilities and how it will replace programmers and workers across various industries. But this perspective falls short. As AI enters more fields, it is becoming a driving force behind industrial progress and a major contributor to productivity.

AI-powered tools, especially leading models, are now widely accessible. Access is no longer the defining advantage. What distinguishes one user from another is simple: how?

How do they use these tools? What methodology do they follow? How do they guide them toward meaningful results?

In the broader technical field, writing code has not become obsolete. Rather, it is becoming one of the cheapest and easiest stages of software development.

Value is increasingly shifting toward engineers who understand engineering itself. Those who can work effectively with AI, guide it toward solving problems, and build systems suited to real-world needs are better positioned to remain relevant.

Combining AI's productivity with strong management, guidance, and a deep understanding of how different AI models work is what separates this approach from traditional ways of working.

Returning to the overused question with which I began: "Who will be replaced?"

Those who cling to outdated working practices and refuse to adapt to change risk being left behind.

And just as we have discussed replacement, we must also discuss creation. AI does not merely replace jobs; it also creates new roles and reshapes existing ones. Examples include Prompt Engineering, which gained prominence following ChatGPT's widespread adoption in late 2022, as well as RAG Engineering, Agentic AI Engineering, the Chief AI Officer (CAIO), and the AI Business Translator.

Ultimately, anyone seeking success, whether professionally or in any productive field, must keep pace with technological developments without becoming distracted by every new trend. Adopting AI thoughtfully and in moderation can strengthen our skills, improve our professional capabilities, and even enrich our everyday lives.
