I Put Billboard's Hot 100 Next to Deezer's Chart. They Disagree on What #1 Means.

I Put Billboard's Hot 100 Next to Deezer's Chart. They Disagree on What #1 Means.

Billboard's Hot 100 and Deezer's global chart are both "the chart," so I pulled them on the same morning — October 7, 2026 — and put them side by side. Five songs appear on both lists.

The overlap is the boring part. The thing worth your attention is what each chart does with the number one slot, because they disagree completely and both are correct.

Billboard's top five is one artist

Positions one through five: Patient Zero, Choosin' Texas, Cleveland!, Babylon, Pink Clouding.

Four of those five belong to Taylor Swift. Four songs, one name, the entire top of the chart.

That is not a popularity chart. That is a release chart. An album shipped, and Billboard's method — which weights sales, airplay and streams against each other — is reporting the shipment. Four entries from one artist in the top five is what a major release week looks like, not what a listening week looks like.

Deezer's chart says something else

Deezer's number one that morning:

Dracula (with JENNIE) — Tame Impala

Second: Boston — STELLA LEFTY

Third: Choosin' Texas — Ella Langley, the one song both charts agree on near the top.

Where is Taylor Swift on Deezer? Position six.

So the album did land internationally. It simply did not occupy the top of the list outside the US. If you had built a month of content around Billboard's top five, you would have built it around four songs a large part of the world had not moved onto yet.

The five songs both charts agree on

Choosin' Texas — Ella Langley. Deezer #3, Billboard #2.

Dracula — Tame Impala with JENNIE. Deezer #1, Billboard #10.

hate that i made you love me — Ariana Grande. Deezer #5, Billboard #8.

BbY WOW — KAROL G. Deezer #7, Billboard #11.

stupid song — Olivia Rodrigo. Deezer #12, Billboard #9.

Read those gaps. Dracula is at the very top of one list and tenth on the other — a seventeen-rank spread, in opposite directions. That is not an error in either chart. It is a speed difference. Billboard publishes weekly on a fixed day; a streaming chart moves faster and reflects a different listener base. A song can be surging globally and simply not have finished surging on the slower chart.

The rule that comes out of this

Use Billboard for "what shipped." Use a streaming chart for "what is being played." And when you want a list you can actually trust, take only the songs that appear on both. Five, this week. Those are the entries where no part of the measurement is in dispute.

Method

Billboard Hot 100 and Deezer global chart, both pulled the morning of October 7, 2026, 25 positions each. Rankings as published, no weighting applied.
