How MediaTek Simplifies IoT Device Management at Scale

As connected devices scale across industrial, commercial, and smart infrastructure environments, efficient IoT device management becomes essential. Businesses need a reliable connected device platform that simplifies development, supports diverse workloads, and provides a strong foundation for long-term deployment.

MediaTek brings processing, connectivity, on-device AI, and software support together through its IoT portfolio, helping businesses develop scalable connected solutions.

Design Once, Reuse Across Product Lines

MediaTek tackles fragmented toolchains, certification steps, and software integration issues at the platform level. It offers three families: Genio processors for AI and multimedia, modem-based platforms for 4G/5G and GNSS, and Commercial Display SoCs.

Moreover, all three come with maintained BSPs for Linux, Android, and Yocto. A BSP links the operating system to the chip. Additionally, the partner directory lists SOM, IDH and ODM partners, AI technology partners, integrators and distributors. Together, these give teams one predictable software base, which anchors effective IoT device management.

Run AI on the Device to Cut Cloud Dependence

Every Genio processor combines a CPU, GPU and NPU. The family scales from 0.35 to 50+ TOPS (trillions of operations per second) with consistent BSP support. Furthermore, vision and generative AI tasks run locally, which lowers latency and cloud traffic. This makes AI edge computing practical for large fleets.

The Genio Developer Resources provide SDKs, developer tools, and maintained BSPs to help teams develop, test, and deploy AI models across different products.

For mid-range products, the Genio 700 pairs 2x Arm Cortex-A78 cores and 6x Cortex-A55 cores with a 4 TOPS NPU. It is pin-to-pin compatible with Genio 510, so teams can upgrade on the same board layout.

Additionally, the flagship Genio Pro 5100 uses a 3nm process and an Arm v9.2 CPU with 1x Cortex-X925, 3x Cortex-X4, and 4x Cortex-A720. Its NPU exceeds 50 TOPS and runs 7B-parameter LLMs at over 23 tokens per second.

This gives businesses the processing capacity to run advanced AI workloads locally, while AI agents can support tasks such as robotics and smart retail automation.

Plan Hardware for a Ten-Year Service Life

Factories, depots, and public sites keep devices in service for years. An industrial edge computing platform needs matching supply and software support. Genio offers 10-year supply longevity with long-term OS and security support, plus extended operating temperature ranges. Genio Pro 5100 supports -40°C to +105°C junction temperature, with dual 2.5GbE and PCIe Gen 4 for expansion.

As a result, one hardware design serves the full product life. Service teams hence avoid mid-life chip swaps that split the fleet into versions.

Approved Connectivity for Every Region

Modem-based platforms bring 4G/5G, GNSS, and low-power operation. The modem technology is globally deployed and carrier-approved. Therefore, integration time and compliance risk drop in each new market. Hardware-level security, on the other hand, adds secure boot, encryption, and data integrity protection.

At the high end, the MT8883 is a 4nm 5G platform. Meanwhile, the MT8875 serves the mid-range with a 3GPP Rel. 17 5G modem, Wi-Fi 7, a 12.8 TOPS NPU for on-device GenAI, and optional satellite NTN.

It also carries 7-year Android update support plus 3 years of security maintenance, and supply is guaranteed until 2032.

Consequently, these capabilities support smart city edge computing across utility and infrastructure, building management systems, access control, and security and surveillance. Transportation teams also use them for EV charging stations, fleet management, and ticketing terminals.

The Same Approach Reaches the Screen

Commercial Display SoCs power interactive signage, kiosks, and POS systems. They provide 4K multimedia processing, multi-display support, and hardware acceleration. Android-ready platforms include full BSPs, robust I/O and lifecycle support for digital signage and HMI deployments.

The MT8195 is a high-end 6nm SoC with 4x Arm Cortex-A78 cores, a 4.8 TOPS NPU and dual 4K display support. It runs Android TV, Yocto Linux, and Ubuntu.

Moreover, the premium MT9681 targets 4K120 displays with a dedicated MEMC engine and an NPU for AI picture enhancement. At the top, the flagship MT9969 supports up to 8K60 displays.

As a result, one display fleet shares BSP and management practices across every tier.

Deployments Across Safety, Retail, Meetings and the Field

VIA uses Genio 700 in the VAB-5000 for AI-based workplace safety. In retail, XC Tech builds smart POS devices with reliable connectivity and long battery life. Qbic and Barco bring smart control panels and displays to hybrid meeting rooms.

In the field, InnoComm uses the MT8781 in the Daylight Computer DC-1 for sunlight-readable outdoor computing.

One Plan for Every Layer of the Fleet

Effective IoT device management becomes simpler when processing, connectivity, displays, software support, and supply planning work together. MediaTek delivers that plan across three families.

Genio processors scale AI from Genio 700 to the flagship Genio Pro 5100. Modem-based platforms, including the MT8875, keep devices connected in every region. Display SoCs, from MT8195 to MT9969, cover every screen tier.

Maintained BSPs, 10-year supply, and a wide partner network tie it together. For manufacturers and developers, this means fewer variants, faster integration, and a manageable fleet.
