Meta's Ad Assistant Can Now Build Campaigns From a Chat Prompt — Here's the Approval Playbook

Originally published on DigiHustle

On October 6, at Advertising Week New York, Meta announced something more consequential than another AI feature drop. The AI business assistant inside Meta Ads Manager can now plan and create a campaign, generate creative imagery and text, update targeting, and change a budget — conversationally, from a chat prompt. It drafts everything and stages it for your sign-off.

Read that again: the assistant executes. For years, "AI in ads" meant a side panel suggesting a headline variant you could accept with one click. This is different. You describe the change in plain language; it builds the campaign, rewrites the creative, shifts the budget, and hands you one job: approve, or don't.

Meta says advertisers who act on its recommendations are seeing 5% more conversions at the same cost. Early partner tests compressed campaign launch times by roughly 60%. That's the gap between a tool that advises and a subordinate that acts.

What the assistant actually does now

  • Conversational campaign building — describe what you want and the assistant drafts the campaign structure, creative, and settings inside Ads Manager.
  • Creative generation and edits — generates ad imagery and text, and the expanded Ads Creative Studio can now create new video concepts from existing assets.
  • Audience discovery via Customer Lifecycle Strategy — specify acquisition, and the assistant recommends how to exclude existing customers.
  • Conversational budget and targeting changes — "shift $20/day from this ad set to that one" through a prompt.

Three things worth letting it do

First drafts of video variations from your statics. Brands sitting on 40 product photos while spending $2,000+ on a video shoot for Q4 — Meta's Advantage+ can now generate video from static assets in minutes. Review the first three seconds of each one yourself. The hook is still a human decision.

Acquisition exclusions through Customer Lifecycle Strategy. Genuine improvement. Set it up once, verify the exclusions, stop babysitting suppression lists.

Creative diagnosis inside Creative Studio. Treat the diagnosis as a starting point for your next brief, not gospel.

Two things you never hand over

Budget authority. Set your daily cap before prompting the assistant. The assistant doesn't know your cash flow or margin. The assistant proposes budget changes, a human approves every single one.

The offer and the brand voice. No assistant can fix a weak offer; it can only dress one up in sharper words.

The approval workflow we recommend

  • Monday: Prompt with hard constraints, review every draft against a checklist.
  • Midweek: Generate video/hook variations. Watch the first three seconds of each.
  • Friday: Fatigue check — CTR down 30%+ over two weeks means refresh.
  • Always: Human kill rule. 50% over target CPA for three days = paused by a human.

Q4 is the wrong season to learn a new tool by trial and error. Set the guardrails first, then let the machine do the boring parts.
