How I Built Wobbly Bottle: A Synchronized Multiplayer Spin the Bottle Party Game

The Problem: The One-Phone Trap at House Parties

A few weekends ago at a gathering with friends, we wanted to play a classic round of Truth or Dare / Spin the Bottle.

If you've ever tried this at a party, you know the exact painful ritual:

  • 8 to 12 people awkwardly squeezing shoulder-to-shoulder around a single cracked smartphone screen.
  • Passing the phone around sticky drink tables (and someone inevitably almost dropping it into a beer).
  • Outdated mobile apps charging absurd $9.99/week subscriptions just to unlock basic prompts.

It completely stalled the energy in the room. That night, I decided to build a proper modern solution: Wobbly Bottle.

The Concept: Jackbox-Style Room Codes on Mobile

Instead of passing one device around, why not let everyone play on their own smartphone while staying completely synchronized?

Here is how the architecture works:

  1. The Host Room: One player creates a room and gets a private 6-digit room PIN and QR code.
  2. Instant Joining: All other players open the app on iOS or Android and enter the PIN. No accounts or passwords required.
  3. Synchronized Bottle Physics: When the host spins the bottle, the custom physics engine tilts, bends, and spins the bottle simultaneously across every connected device in real time!
  4. Questioner & Answerer Selection: When the bottle stops, neon lasers point at both the questioner and the answerer across everyone's screen.

3 Flexible Game Modes

We designed three distinct modes to fit any social setting:

1. 📱 Table Mode (Classic Pass-and-Play)

For quick, casual hangouts: place one phone in the center of the table and take turns spinning. Zero setup required.

2. 🏠 House Party Mode (Everyone on Their Own Phone)

For living room gatherings: everyone connects to the room code. The prompts focus on group challenges, couple chemistry, close-contact dares, and drinking penalties without anyone huddling over one screen.

3. 🌐 Remote Mode (Online over Discord & FaceTime)

For long-distance friends living in different cities: tailored prompts featuring screenshot dares, photo proofs, and voice confessions designed specifically for voice and video calls.

Ridiculous Spinning Objects

A classic green soda bottle gets boring after five rounds. So we added hilarious alternate physics objects:

  • 🐔 Squeaky Rubber Chicken (bends and squeaks wildly on every tilt)
  • 🥒 Wobbly Green Pickle
  • 🩴 The Flying Slipper (the ultimate throwback)
  • 🍾 VIP Golden Champagne

Handcrafted Content Across 5 Categories (1,000+ Cards)

We built custom decks in 5 languages (English, German, Turkish, Spanish, French):

  • Ice Breaker: Lighthearted questions designed for groups of 10-15 people who don't know each other well.
  • Deep Secrets: Unfiltered confessions you have never told anyone.
  • Extreme Dares & Shots: Do the dare or take a penalty shot!
  • Flirt & Couples: Sparks and chemistry for dates and parties.
  • Spicy +18 (VIP): Uncensored adult party fun.

Tech Stack & Availability

  • Frontend & Physics: Flutter & Dart with custom trigonometric physics rendering
  • Networking: Real-time synchronized room states with zero noticeable latency
  • Platforms: iOS (iPhone/iPad) & Android

Both mobile apps are completely free to download:

I would love to hear your honest feedback, critique on the physics feel, or crazy object suggestions for the next update!
