Marketing design at scale has a new face – JSON.
Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator were built long before LLMs existed. Their formats were designed for a single app to open them, so design work sits in blackbox files (.psd, .ai, etc.) that other software can't read.
JSON is now challenging that.
A design saved as JSON is plain text: the size, copy, font and position of every element. A script can edit it, an LLM can write it, Git can diff it, and a render step turns it into a PNG or PDF.
The full article shows a .psd and a JSON file side by side, with interactive animations of dragging an element, filling a template from a product feed, and text that stops fitting when the copy changes language. It also covers where this breaks in production: text fit, fonts, print.
