Introduction

Sometimes the hardest part isn't feeling something — it's finding the words to express it.

We built AfterMind, an AI-powered emotional storytelling platform designed to give people a creative and approachable way to express their thoughts and experiences.

Instead of simply writing thoughts down in a traditional journal, AfterMind transforms what users share into a personalized storytelling experience, making self-expression more engaging and meaningful.

💡 What We Built

AfterMind allows users to share their thoughts, experiences, and emotions through a simple interface.

The application then uses AI to understand the context of the user's input and transform it into a personalized story.

The core experience follows a simple flow:

Express → Understand → Create → Experience

The goal was to make the process feel less like filling out a form and more like having your thoughts transformed into something you can actually experience.

🤖 How AI Powers AfterMind

AI is at the heart of AfterMind.

When a user provides their thoughts or experiences, the application processes the input and generates a story based on the context provided by the user.

Rather than treating the input as ordinary text, AfterMind focuses on creating a personalized storytelling experience around it.

This allows users to turn their own experiences into something creative while maintaining the personal meaning behind what they originally shared.

⚡ How We Used TrueForge

TrueForge was incorporated into our development workflow as the agent layer supporting the AI-powered storytelling process.

The agent helps process the user's input and connect it to the storytelling workflow, allowing AfterMind to transform user-provided thoughts into personalized generated content.

Using an agent-based approach helped us think beyond a simple input-and-output AI interaction. We designed the workflow around how the user moves from expressing an experience to receiving a meaningful storytelling result.

TrueForge therefore played an important role in connecting the AI capabilities with the core experience of AfterMind.

🧑‍💻 How Qodo Helped Us

We also used Qodo during development to improve the quality of our code.

As we iterated on the project, Qodo helped us review our implementation, identify potential issues, and improve the structure and readability of our code.

This was particularly useful while moving quickly during development because it gave us another layer of feedback beyond simply checking whether the application worked.

Using Qodo helped us focus not only on building features, but also on keeping the implementation cleaner and more maintainable.

🎨 Designing the User Experience

One of our main goals was to make AfterMind feel approachable.

Since users are sharing personal thoughts, we wanted the interface to feel simple and comfortable rather than overwhelming.

We focused on:

  • A visually engaging storytelling experience

The UI was designed around the idea that the user's story should remain the center of the experience.

🚧 Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was translating an abstract concept — emotions and personal experiences — into a useful digital experience.

We had to think about how much information the user should provide, how the AI should transform that information, and how the final result should be presented.

Another challenge was balancing functionality with simplicity. We wanted AfterMind to have meaningful AI functionality without making the user experience complicated.

📚 What We Learned

Building AfterMind taught us that a successful AI application isn't only about the model or the technology behind it.

The user experience around the AI matters just as much.

We learned how important it is to design the complete workflow — from the moment a user interacts with the application to the moment they receive the AI-generated result.

We also learned how AI coding and development tools such as TrueForge and Qodo can support rapid development while helping us think more carefully about implementation and code quality.

Most importantly, we learned that technology becomes more meaningful when it is built around a problem that people can actually relate to.

AfterMind is only the beginning.

Future versions could include more personalized storytelling styles, richer visual storytelling, improved customization, and additional ways for users to revisit and interact with their generated stories.

Our long-term vision is to make AfterMind a space where people can transform their thoughts and experiences into stories that feel uniquely theirs.
