This is a submission for the "Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend" (https://dev.to/challenges/hacktoberfest-weekend-2026-10-01)
What I Built
I built StudyBuddy, a simple AI-powered study website for my college friend.
The idea came from a common problem students face: we have PDFs, notes, and textbooks, but turning all that material into useful revision material takes a lot of time.
StudyBuddy is designed to help students turn their study material into:
- 📚 Easy-to-understand summaries
- 🧠 Flashcards for quick revision
- ❓ AI-generated quizzes
- 📝 Practice exams
- 📊 Study and revision support
The goal is to keep the experience simple: upload study material → understand it → practice → revise.

How I Built It
I built StudyBuddy as a lightweight web application with a focus on simple UI/UX and an easy study workflow.
The project was developed with AI-assisted tools and open-source development technologies. I experimented with AI-assisted coding to turn the idea into a working prototype and focused on making the interface easy for a student to understand and navigate.
The main workflow is:
Upload → Understand → Summarize → Practice → Revise
I also used DevRelay to document my agent-assisted development session.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation gives individual developers and students the freedom to experiment, learn, and build solutions for real problems without needing a large team or expensive development setup.
For StudyBuddy, open tools and AI-assisted development helped me turn a simple idea into a working prototype much faster.
Instead of building a generic study application, I could experiment with the features and workflow around what a student actually needs.
That is what makes open innovation valuable to me: an idea can start with one person and become something useful for many people through open tools, collaboration, and experimentation.

Built for a Friend ❤️
I built StudyBuddy with one simple goal: make studying from a large amount of material feel less overwhelming.
It started as an idea for a friend, but the same problem is faced by many students who struggle with revision and organizing their study material.
