I Built a Basic Calculator That Focuses on Simplicity Instead of Features

Most of us don't think about calculators until we need one.
It could be while calculating a discount during shopping, managing monthly expenses, solving a math problem, or checking a quick percentage. We open a calculator, finish the calculation, and move on.
But after trying dozens of online calculators, I noticed a common problem.
Many of them have become unnecessarily complicated.
Some are overloaded with advertisements, others are slow to load, and many include advanced scientific functions when all you need is simple arithmetic. Instead of helping users solve a problem, they often create a frustrating experience.
As developers, we usually love adding new features. But sometimes the better decision is to remove them.
That's the philosophy I followed while building the [Monkza Basic Calculator.
The goal wasn't to reinvent the calculator.
The goal was to create one that feels effortless.
I focused on a few simple principles:
Fast loading
Responsive on every screen
Clean and distraction-free interface
Accurate calculations
A smooth experience on both desktop and mobile
No unnecessary complexity.
Just a tool that helps people finish their work and move on.
Building simple products is surprisingly difficult because every small design decision matters. Button spacing, typography, responsiveness, keyboard behavior, and loading performance all contribute to the overall experience.
This project also reminded me that users rarely remember products with the most features. They remember products that save them time.
This calculator is only the beginning. I'm currently building more everyday web tools under the Monkza brand, with the same philosophy: create useful products that people actually enjoy using.
