I used to paste JSON into random online formatters and drop Discord clips into random compressors without thinking. Then I started noticing how many of them quietly log the payload or run ads that scrape more than they should.
So I stopped.
Everything I use now for quick developer tasks runs entirely in the browser. No server, no account, no upload. The file never leaves my machine.
What actually works client-side
- JSON formatting, minifying, and validation
- Regex testing with live highlighting
- HTML/CSS/JS playgrounds
- Simple video size targeting for Discord’s free tier (bitrate math + re-encode in the browser)
The video one is the one people ask about most. Discord’s free limit is still tight, and their own compression is unreliable. A local tool that just takes your duration and target MB, then spits out a usable H.264 file, solves it without sending the clip anywhere.
If you want the exact set I keep bookmarked:
- client-side JSON formatter
- Discord video compressor + Twitch Bits calculator: bitsized.bond
No signup on either. Open the tab, paste, done.
The trade-off is obvious: you won’t get cloud history or team sharing. For 95% of the quick tasks I do during the day, I don’t need either.
Try running a large JSON or a 30-second clip through a pure client-side tool once. The difference in how careful you feel afterward is noticeable.
