Understanding search engine optimization and search engine marketing.

Search engine marketing often referred to as SEM is a digital marketing way or strategy to increase the visibility of your website after a search engine results pages (SERPS) where as Search engine optimization SEO – is the process of ensuring your website rank higher in organic search results.

Search engine basis involves showing your site to people who are actively looking for you or your services. Search engine optimization is not paid for whereas search engine marketing is paid for to show your website .

Search engine optimization success is achieved by choosing the relevant / right keywords that users will use to get to your website. There are two types of keywords mainly :
• Short tail
• Long tail
Short tail keywords are ‘general’ consisting of one or two keywords while the long tail keywords are those that contain more specific explanation than the short keywords
Search engine marketing help business get ‘in front’ of or promote brand presence conversion. This is achieved by purchasing ADS on search engines such as Bing, Yahoo, Google and many other search engines.

The advantages of both SEM and SEO is to draw traffic to your website and help bring people or future customers that are actively searching for your products or services. It enables your business or website to appear to different people and aid you to focus on your market niche promoting your website. It helps you compete in the marketing of your website.

To achieve SEM and SEO success you have to use most relevant keywords to describe your current website content. Setting realistic goals to achieve and improve your website or business performance. You have to think like a customer and what they might probably type on search engine to find your service or business.

In conclusion Search Engine Optimization is used as umbrella or generally shelves SEM but since SEM is for paid advertisements they are totally separate since one shows/appears in organic search that is (SEO) while the other one is about paying for ads to attract traffic to your site that is (SEM).
SEO is free and depend on organic search strategies but SEM relies on paid advertising but the payments for it vary depending on various factors.
