How I Built a Kerala Houseboat Booking Website and Started My SEO Journey
Recently, I started working on a travel-related project — a Kerala houseboat booking website called Backwater Holidays. The goal was simple: help travelers easily book houseboats in Alleppey (Alappuzha), one of the most beautiful destinations in Kerala.
This project helped me learn not only web development but also SEO and digital marketing.
The Idea Behind the Project
Alleppey is famous for its backwaters and houseboats, but I noticed that many travelers struggle to find reliable booking platforms. So I decided to create a simple website that helps users:
- Compare houseboats
- Check pricing
- Contact directly
- Book easily
Tech Stack Used
I focused on building a fast and simple website using:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- Node.js (for backend improvements later)
- SEO optimization
Since performance matters for travel websites, I also optimized:
- Image loading
- Page speed
- Mobile responsiveness
SEO Strategy
After launching the website, I started working on SEO. Here are some things I focused on:
- Writing blog articles
- Creating backlinks
- Optimizing keywords
- Improving content quality
I also started publishing content on platforms like GitHub and Dev.to to improve off-page SEO.
