Today, I started my hands-on journey into Cloud Computing with AWS, focusing on the fundamentals of EC2, S3, and Networking.
🔹 What I learned & implemented
1. Amazon S3 — Object Storage
Learned the fundamentals of Amazon S3 and how buckets are used to store objects.
Created my own S3 bucket and explored its configuration.
Learned about Object Ownership and how access to objects can be managed.
Enabled and explored Bucket Versioning to maintain different versions of objects.
Uploaded my portfolio website files, including:
index.html
An image used in my portfolio.
2. Hosting my Portfolio on S3 🌐
Created a portfolio website using HTML.
Uploaded it to my S3 bucket.
Configured the bucket for website access.
Used the S3-provided URL to make my portfolio accessible over the internet.
3.Amazon CloudFront ⚡
Next, I learned why simply hosting content from a storage bucket may not provide the best experience for users located far away.
Introduced Amazon CloudFront, AWS's Content Delivery Network (CDN).
Connected CloudFront with my S3 bucket to distribute my portfolio content globally.
Worked with bucket policies to control access between S3 and CloudFront.
Learned how CloudFront provides a distribution domain name that can be used to access the website.
🧠 Key Takeaway
This session helped me understand how different AWS services work together:
User → CloudFront → S3 → Website Content
Instead of users directly accessing the storage location, CloudFront can deliver content through geographically distributed edge locations, helping improve performance and availability for users around the world.
