🌟 Hey dev.to! I’m an 11-Year-Old Aspiring Dev & This Is My Project: Neiler 64

Hey everyone! I’m an 11-year-old developer who loves building hardware and software just for fun and learning 🤓. I’ve been working on something pretty cool called Neiler 64, and I want to show it to you!

🔗 Check out the full project on GitHub:

💻 What Neiler 64 Actually Is

Neiler 64 is a custom hardware and software platform that brings together:
• Custom CPU architectures (8-bit and 16-bit)
• A custom GPU with tile-based graphics
• A portable workstation design (the Neilerdeck)
• Emulators, assemblers, and tools to build and run your own programs

It’s kind of like building your own computer from scratch — both the brain and the body!

🛠 What’s Inside

This project includes:
• Neiler CPUs: Custom-designed CPUs (Neiler-8 and Neiler-16) with full instruction sets
• NeilerGPU: A graphics engine with multiple display modes
• Portable Neilerdeck: A DIY cyberdeck workstation with hardware specs, PCBs, and even 3D-printable parts
• Tools: Assemblers, emulators, docs, and examples so you can build and run your own programs on it

🤔 What I Learned

Working on Neiler 64 taught me a ton about:
• Computer architecture basics
• How emulators and CPUs actually work
• How hardware and software fit together
• Managing a big repo with different subprojects

🛠️ Next Steps

I’m planning to:
• Add more features to the Neiler-16 CPU
• Improve the emulator
• Build a real physical prototype
• Possibly open source parts for others to build too

🎉 Thanks for Reading!

I’m here to learn and grow as a dev, and I hope this inspires others my age (or older 😄) to jump into hardware and software development too. If you check out the project and have feedback or ideas, let me know — I’d love to hear them!

Stay curious,
— Neil
