Why Understanding Your Audience Should Come Before Creating Content

It's easy to focus on what to post when creating content. But before deciding on the topic, format, or caption, there's something more important to understand: who you're creating it for.

Content needs a purpose

People engage with content for different reasons. Some are looking for answers, some want to learn something new, and others are simply exploring a topic that interests them.

When you understand your audience, you can create content that speaks to their needs instead of posting just to stay active.

Start by asking better questions

Before creating your next piece of content, consider:

  • Who am I trying to reach?
  • What questions might they have?
  • What problems are they trying to solve?
  • What would make this content useful to them?

You don't need complicated research to start. Reading comments, observing common questions, and paying attention to engagement can already give you useful insights.

Relevance matters more than volume

Publishing consistently is helpful, but posting frequently without understanding your audience can make content feel repetitive or disconnected.

A clear content strategy gives every post a reason to exist. It helps you focus on relevance, clarity, and value rather than simply filling a calendar.

I'm continuing to explore content strategy, SEO, and digital marketing through practical projects and my own website.
