Roadtrippers is a road trip planner with stops and navigation. If you want a shortlist of places you choose yourself rather than a route, I built one: NomadSwipe, an Android trip planner. Here are six apps compared, mine included.

"Anything you plan or save automagically syncs with the apps." That is Roadtrippers' own homepage, and it shows the product is built around the route.

Disclosure: I built NomadSwipe, and it is one of the six apps compared. Read my entry with that in mind. Updated 26 October 2026.

Roadtrippers at a glance

  • Plans: the base plan allows 1 saved trip and 3 stops per trip. Higher plans allow more trips and stops, up to unlimited saved trips on Premium.
  • Autopilot: the homepage says Autopilot "creates your itinerary based on what we've learned from over 42 million trips" and calls it its newest Premium feature.
  • Features by plan: custom map styles and trip export start on Basic. Trip collaboration and navigation start on Pro. RV GPS, overnight RV parking, live traffic and offline maps are Premium only.
  • Platforms: a web planner, plus apps for Apple and Google Play. Its homepage says plans sync between them.

What reviewers say about Roadtrippers

  • Pilot's review (last updated 23 December 2025) says some users report outdated suggestions for restaurants and hotels, and that navigation is only available in portrait mode.
  • Upper is named as an alternative on its own page, so treat its criticism as a rival's view. It says users report app crashes and image loading problems, and that Roadtrippers is tailored mainly to the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

These are dated, partly competitor-written reviews, so treat them as signals to check, not settled facts.

Quick comparison

App Best for Key difference
NomadSwipe A shortlist of real places in a city, seen on a map Swipe to save; not a route planner
Furkot Planning a road trip route by car Plans a route "in the most efficient way"
Google Maps Driving directions with offline maps on Android Navigation app; multi-stop trip planning is not described on the pages we read
Tripomatic Day-by-day itineraries, including multi-stop road trips Shows the route between stops; offline maps and export on Premium
Wanderlog Itineraries with email import and a map view Forward confirmation emails into a trip
Polarsteps Recording a trip as you travel Records your route and turns the trip into a Travel Book

1. NomadSwipe: for choosing places, not routing a road trip

Best for: a shortlist of real places you choose yourself, on a map.

NomadSwipe is an Android trip planner. You pick a city and it deals real places one card at a time. Swipe right or tap Save to keep a place, swipe left or tap Skip to pass. Everything you save is pinned on your trip map.

Where it beats Roadtrippers

  • You do not need a route to start. Pick a city and swipe through real places one card at a time.
  • Each place shows its photos, directions, website and phone number, and saved places sort by rating, distance or A to Z.
  • The base plan covers 3 trips, and up to 20 saved trips are available offline.

Where it does not

  • It does not plan a driving route between stops. Roadtrippers plans routes, and offers RV GPS and overnight RV parking on Premium.
  • It is Android only, and the Google Play listing does not describe trip export or live traffic.

Pricing: the base plan includes 3 trips, 2 destination searches and 2 custom pins a month, plus a limited number of swipes. Premium is optional, as a Monthly or Lifetime plan, and removes those limits. Google Play shows the current price before you buy.

NomadSwipe vs Roadtrippers, head to head

NomadSwipe Roadtrippers
Core idea Swipe real places, save, see them on a map A road trip planner that plans the trip for you
Plans Base plan plus optional Premium (Monthly or Lifetime) Base plan (1 saved trip, 3 stops) plus paid tiers
Routing Not a route planner Stops along a route; Autopilot itinerary on Premium
Navigation Directions to a place from its page Navigation on Pro and Premium
Offline Up to 20 saved trips Offline maps on Premium only
Platforms Android, on Google Play Web planner plus Apple and Google Play apps

The two apps solve different problems. Roadtrippers is built to route a trip with stops along the way. NomadSwipe gives you a quick shortlist of places you chose yourself, on Android, with no route planning. If your trip is a route, choose Roadtrippers or Furkot below.

2. Furkot

Best for: planning a road trip route by car.

Furkot calls itself a "road trip planner" with the tagline "Miss the turns on your terms!" Its homepage says it "attempts to plan a route for your trip in the most efficient way", and covers day trips, weekend getaways and trips across a continent.

  • Strength: built around planning a route, which is the job NomadSwipe does not do.
  • Weakness: the homepage does not describe RV-specific routing, and offline use and export are not mentioned on the page we read.

Pricing: the homepage we read states no price, so check the current price on its site.

3. Google Maps

Best for: driving directions with offline maps on Android.

Google's Maps page says Gemini can help "while driving, walking, or cycling to help you find places on your route". Google's Android help explains that you can download an offline map from a place's details, or choose a custom area under Offline maps.

  • Strength: driving directions and offline maps in one app you may already have.
  • Weakness: offline maps are not available in every region, and downloaded maps expire and must be updated. The pages we read do not describe planning a multi-stop road trip, so we have not compared that.

4. Tripomatic

Best for: day-by-day itineraries, including multi-stop road trips, with offline maps on Premium.

Tripomatic is a trip planner for web, Apple and Android. Its base plan has no time limit, but allows up to 5 days with planned activities per calendar month across all your trips, up to 25 places and hotels per trip, and shows ads. Its FAQ says you can plan a road trip with multiple stops, and that Tripomatic shows the route between stops so you can plan your driving time.

  • Strength: it turns a list of places into a daily schedule, with offline maps and export to PDF, GPX and KML on Premium.
  • Weakness: the base plan's monthly day limit is tight, and the page we read does not show the Premium price.

5. Wanderlog

Best for: itineraries with email import and a map view.

Wanderlog's homepage says "One app for all your travel planning needs", lists map view and route optimization, and says you can "Connect or forward your emails to get it magically added into your trip plan." It also lists offline access as a Pro feature, along with live syncing and collaborative editing.

  • Strength: an itinerary and map in one view, with email import, and a section on planning road trips with stops, distances and times.
  • Weakness: offline access is a Pro feature, and the homepage states no Pro price, so check the current price before you plan around one.

6. Polarsteps

Best for: recording a trip as you travel.

Polarsteps' homepage describes "One travel app for all your adventures". It says it will "Capture your route automatically" and "Transform your trip into a Travel Book".

  • Strength: records your route automatically and turns a trip into a book.
  • Weakness: its homepage describes a trip planner for stays and activities, but not planning a driving route between stops.

Pricing: the core app stays as it is for people who do not subscribe. Plus is the paid tier, and its price varies by region, so check the app or its help center.
