I 100% agree with this and this is something I have really embraced this year, it is great fun learning new technologies and concepts but getting the fundamentals with Linux is a must! I converted my daily driver laptop to Ubuntu and that has been my year so far. Also I would add here that Networking fundamentals is also a must again not the shiny new tech but it is a must to have a lot of this foundation to understand the world and art of automation.
